Mrs. Morton called an informational Magnet parent meeting February 7, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00p in the the new Parent Center set up in room 504
Attendees were approx. 20 parents, two students, Mr. Zwick and Mr. Jeffries, in addition to Mrs. Morton and special guest Ms. Susan Philips, of CollegePath.org

Ms. Susan Philips presented her organization, CollegePath LA http://collegepathla.org/, which helps students at Marshall apply to college. In particular, they help with test preparation and completing personal essays. They are planning, along with Marshall’s College and Career Center, to hold a series of student career informational events for the Spring to be held in the teacher cafeteria. Information about these will be posted on here.
Magnet enrollment update: the district has approved the Magnet to grow to 450 students this year. They have 300 9th grade applicants, but will accept about 190. Students and parents will be notified in April. There will be one more teacher hired, but the subject area is TBD.
It was agreed that fundraising should go through the Magnet Club, which is a student club that has not met this year, but that has an account set up in the student store and plans to meet on Friday 2/22.
The main wish list item for fundraising is paper, ink and repairs for the magnet office photocopier
A general fundraising direct appeal letter is going to go out from Mrs. Morton’s office through the mail to parents asking for donations. $4,632.44 already exists in the district-supervised donations account for the magnet.
Mrs. Morton presented a schedule for the rest of the school year; it will be posted on www.gojmm.org
The School Site council is re-writing the Family Involvement Plan. All suggestions are welcome.
